Keto can be tough. I get it. Sometimes you feel like you are giving up a lot of yummy foods, especially when you travel. I know a lot of people that do keto, but will go off it when they are on vacation or have a special occasion. I’ve done it myself. In the end, it really isn’t worth it to me, and I don’t think I’ve come out of ketosis in quite a few months. I really do NOT want to break ketosis again. I end up feeling really crappy for days, and it takes me a while to get my head back in the game and get back into eating keto. Really, really not worth it!
Run a search of any favorite vacation spot and you will be sure to find a “10 Best Places to Eat” blog or site. This week, we are vacationing in the Smoky Mountains and Nashville. How do you navigate around that and stay keto?? Smoky Mountains was easy. Prepping was key. I packed a lunch for us every day since we were just out driving around and wandering the great outdoors.
But Nashville?? How do we swing that one? Keto and alcohol, that’s another problem. When you drink while doing keto, not only does it go to your head really fast, but your body will start burning the alcohol instead of fat, slowing down your progress. Alcohol is best saved for maintenance. I’m not a huge drinker anyway, so not drinking really doesn’t affect me on a daily basis. But, it brings me back to the question, how do you visit and enjoy Nashville if you aren’t eating or drinking your way up Broadway? Yesterday we gave it a try.
Don and I wandered up the street, just listening outside to feel out the music on the inside. When we passed the Bootlegger’s Inn, Don liked who was playing in there, so we went in. We each ordered a drink at the bar, vodka and water with lime and gave the bartender a good tip. When she came back to see if we wanted anything else, we just got ice water. Told her that we wanted to listen but not drink. She was cool with that. We gave her another good tip. We hung out for about an hour and a half enjoying the music, sipping water.
Isaac Mathews was playing.
This brought us to dinner time. We would have eaten there, but they do not serve food. So, back out to the street we went. We were getting short on time for our parking meter to be out of time, so we went to Paradise Park Trailer Resort. We ate here a few years ago when we were in Nashville and knew the food was good. We each ordered a burger, no bun. Don got a double cheeseburger. I got a bacon cheeseburger (my standard when I go out). It came with lettuce, tomato and pickles. Water was our beverage of choice there.
I’d say we had a successful first night staying keto in Nashville. Day two is about to begin, so wish us luck as we try again!
